National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Asian culinary arts are only one of the many reasons why recognizing and celebrating the contributions that Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans have made to America’s culture and accomplishments is so important. Spring definitely snuck up on us this year, and it’s already May! Which means it’s officially time to honor National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. You might be wondering why May was picked for AAPI Heritage Month. The month of May was commemorated because the first Japanese people immigrated to the United States on May 7th, 1843.
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have influenced our society in many ways including culinary, literature, science, medicine, art, sports and more. AAPI month’s theme for May of 2022 is “Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration.” as stated by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council. In reference of collaboration, some of our favorite dishes were inspired by Asian culinary arts. We’ve introduced poke bowl stations, various tuna dishes, beef sate, sushi and many more during events!
TUNA INSPIRED
Plates that highlight tuna are always a crowd pleaser. There’s tons of different ways to incorporate tuna into a meal, and each one is delicious! Some of our favorite asian culinary inspired appetizers (displayed below) are tuna bento salad, smoked yuzu ahi tuna tacos, tuna and avocado roll, ahi tuna on a wonton crisp, seared tuna with candied plantain, & thai soba noodle bowl with ahi tuna and roasted vegetables.
ASIAN INSPIRED STATIONS
When it comes to asian cuisine, you aren’t alone if you want to try a little bit of everything. Poke stations are perfect for this! These stations feature fresh fish, pastas, vegetables, you name it! You can create your very own mix of asian inspired ingredients, enjoy it, and then return for a second plate!
SALMON INSPIRED
Salmon offers a light taste of fish and pairs well with almost anything. We pride ourselves on getting that flaky, breaks-apart-in-your-mouth texture that salmon is known for. Our award-winning chefs skillfully combine salmon with asian culinary inspired vegetables, sauces, and seasonings that are a must-have for your next event.
TRIO PLATES
Like I mentioned before, you likely want to sample a little bit of everything. Similarly to a tapas-style service, we love creating a plate that offers multiple variations for your taste buds. Whether you want to pair a piece of sushi with an eggroll, a taste of salmon or tuna, or edamame, we understand the assignment and are ready to get to work!
ASIAN INSPIRED HORS D’OEUVRES
We definitely didn’t forget about hor d’ouevres. These delectable asian culinary inspired appetizers are always a hit, and can be easily merged into an event that doesn’t feature an asian-based dinner menu. Set them up buffet style or have them butler-passed for your cocktail party, either way they’re perfect to grab-and-go.
