Trends | Cakes + Cupcakes | Sweet Little Things
We’re so excited to have teamed up with Jennyfer Mancino at The Sugar Suite to bring you this weeks blog post! We’ve seen so many weddings lately where people are opting out of the traditional wedding cake and instead using cupcakes or mini-cakes. In addition to the wild epidemic of new flavors, we’re seeing mini-cakes and cupcakes looking absolutely glamorous. From sugar flowers and pearls to elegant gold dust, today’s cakes are more stunning than they have ever been before.
Another trend we’re seeing is smaller wedding cakes accompanied by other decadent desserts. Jennyfer said, “We do small wedding cakes serving 25 or less when a bride and groom want the style of a wedding cake, but may have other desserts they would like to incorporate. I recommend this over cupcakes because a wedding cake does a better job of capturing the style of the couple and the reception.” This is a great option for variety and to add that extra hint of personality to your special day. A lovely couple, a unique venue, a delicious menu, and an incredible theme are the ingredients to an absolutely stunning wedding; and Gloria and Ed’s certainly was one to remember. With an enchanting setup the fun started at the Abbey, and danced it’s way over to the Mezz for a dazzling masquerade filled evening. Guests were delighted to find not only their seat, but also a unique mask marking their place; not only was this an exquisite detail, but also one of our favorite wedding favors ever. Gloria and Ed worked with Puff ‘n Stuff Catering Special Event Planner, Sandy George, to design a menu that would represent their personalities and palettes as well as coordinate perfectly with their event theme. Trends | Chevron | ‘Tis the Season
Chevron, also called Cheveron in older documents, is an inverted V shaped pattern that has been making a huge scene in this season’s wedding & events. Although we’ve recently come to love this hot, new chevron in events- it’s actually a senior pattern that’s been around since ancient times dating back to 1800 BC in early pottery & rock carvings.
We’re seeing this charming pattern dance it’s way into all aspects of events, from the finishing details such as napkins, favors, table runners, linens, napkins, and even cake designs to largely incorporated into the theme via photo backdrops, stationary & invitations, and even entire tablescapes. With so many variations of hues and colors, this lovely pattern is the perfect finishing touch to any event.

Trends | Wedding Seating Plans | Traditional, King’s or Sweetheart Table?
If you’ve finalized your guest list and are ready to knock out your seating plan, the first big step is deciding where you’d like to sit at your own party. First, start by creating a special place just for you and your love! Whether or not your guests will have assigned seating, it’s important to give yourself a special place to sit. There are several popular options including sweetheart tables, king’s tables and the traditional head table.
Romantic Sweetheart Tables
A more recent addition to wedding receptions, a sweetheart table is typically situated in front of guests or closest to the dance floor and seats only the bride and groom. This table-for-two brings the couple to the forefront, making them the natural center of attention and provides a front-row seat for the party. Not only does this option offer sweet photo ops, it helps you focus on each other, enjoy your meal and get back to the excitement!
Lively King’s Tables
A King’s Table is a long table with 12 or more guests seated opposite one another, much like a King holding court with his royal entourage. Guests at the King’s Table sit opposite of each other for ease of conversation, and a more intimate atmosphere. This is also a nice way to include dates of the wedding – if they don’t know anyone else it allows them to engage in conversation in a comfortable setting.
Traditional Head Tables
The most classic bridal seating arrangement is the traditional head table, seating the bride and groom between their respective wedding parties. A long banquet table is a focal point in the reception space and sets the couple and their wedding parties in a place of honor. Immediate family members are sometimes included at this table, the choice is up to you!

The tasting is every couple’s favorite wedding planning meeting, and it’s ours too!
The cuisine is especially important to Jessica and Ian because cooking together, trying new foods, and discovering unique restaurants truly are a few of their favorite things. Real Weddings | Connie + CJ | The Orlando Science Center
Today we are featuring Connie and CJ’s gorgeous wedding held at The Orlando Science Center. With Spectacular food, a beautiful venue, and all of their friends and family to share their special day – Connie and CJ had all of the elements needed to make for a perfect night.
From their beautiful ceremony at Lake Formosa to their lively reception in the Orlando Science Center, the entire affair was a fun and romantic reflection of their love together. We especially love the unique ways that the couple incorporated CJ’s Filipino culture into their grand celebration. Following the ceremony, the night’s entertainment started out on an exciting note with authentic Philippine dances; the performers had the entire Dino Digs room in applause! As the night progressed, guests enjoyed making the rounds to each of the Chef Bars, and live entertainment had every one on the dance floor. When the cake cutting was announced, everyone gathered around to admire the exquisite cake featuring traditional Kanji symbols and a barong pattern. To compliment the cake, delicious desserts were butler-passed and the coffee bar was opened to toast the night. Congratulations to Connie and CJ, and thank you for letting us join in your celebration!

Tips & Tricks | Beat the Holiday After-Effect
The holidays are filled with good times, but sometimes our good times can catch up to us…cue “the hangover.” So what exactly is this awful thing called a hangover?
According to Dr. Oz, “Hangovers are really about the toxicity of the alcohol breaking down in your body that thus causes bi-products that create inflammation, drops in blood sugar levels and acidification. The combination of these bio-chemical events cause the “hangover” symptoms that consist of headaches, nausea, fatigue, etc.”
“When you are faced with the situation of having had more to drink than you anticipated or are going to have an evening where alcohol is involved, there are key factors that will boost your odds of alleviating symptoms and getting your body back to normal as quickly as possible:
1. Hydration. Keep hydrating yourself with alkaline forming Italian sparkling mineral water ie Pellegrino. Alcohol is a diuretic, which increases urination and is dehydrating and acidifying. Minerals are alkaline forming and will help replace mineral deficits caused by alcohol consumption. Remember not all waters are created equal so choose carefully.
2. Eat properly before and after your evening by including protein and low glycemic index foods (solid fruits, watermelon, etc ) to counteract the sugar depletion caused by alcohol. This is important to do especially before going to sleep to prevent hypoglycemia – where you have drops or volatility in blood sugar causing headaches, jitters, heart palpitations, anxiousness, night sweats, shakiness. This usually occurs when you are not eating properly and is most common when you are not sleeping. The perfect protein drink to ingest before bed would be Nutritious and Delicious – 15 grams of protein, 2 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrate no gluten, no soy.
3. The best nutritional solution for treating pain and inflammation caused by an evening of alcohol consumption is taking a buffered, fully reduced, pharmaceutical grade quality, powdered Vitamin C such as the one made by Pure Essentials when combined with Ultra Quercetin (a bioflavonoid) can be a safer alternative to 2 Anacin or 2 Excedrin before going to sleep, as it is an alkaline-forming way to markedly reduce the inflammation which causes the major pain component of the hangover. Take 1/2 tsp Vitamin C mixed with 8oz of Pellegrino and 6 Quercetin before going to sleep and upon rising.”
In addition to his great tips, here are some “Hair of the Dog” Remedies to help cure those post-drinking blues!
The original Bloody Mary, or Red Snapper (as it’s called at the St. Regis in New York)is today’s brunch staple all over the world. Recipe as follows:
The Bloody Mary/ The Red Snapper :
- 1 oz. Belvedere vodka
- 2 oz. Tomato juice
- 1 dash lemon juice
- 2 dashes salt
- 2 dashes black pepper
- 2 dashes cayenne pepper
- 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
Stir all ingredients together in a tall glass.
Hair of the Dog Cocktail:
- 6 oz Bulldog Gin
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
- 2-3 dashes Tabasco sauce
- slice of chili pepper
- Pour the Bulldog Gin and Tabasco into an ice-filled cocktail shaker’=
- Shake generously.
- Strain into a chilled rock glass.
- Garnish with a chili pepper.
